On 8 August 1937, Major General García Pallasar had received a note from Franco expressing the need for a Panzer I armed with a 20 mm gun. Forty L3/35 tankettes were ordered uparmed with a 20 mm Breda Model 35. Only one ended up being converted with the results of the Panzer I being considered far superior.

Used as an impromptu weapons carrier on the field, some mounted the Breda 20mm guns, others were used as field workshops, ambulances, tow trucks and artillery tractors for towing the 65mm/17 and 37mm/45 guns or 3.7 cm PaK 36 German anti-tank gun.

The all-wheel driven Pavesi wheeled-tractors of the type P 4-100 were propelled by a 55 HP Fiat petrol engine. They could reach a top speed of 22 km/h although the fuel consumption of 110 litres and even more for 100 km+ was considered very high. It was used for towing the heavier artillery pieces.

The P4/100 was used to two 105mm guns, 149mm howitzers and 75mm anti-aircraft guns. In Spain , the P4 was employed by the Italian troops of the CTV , later remaining in service with Franco ‘s army . After the armistice , it was employed by the Germans and redesignated Radschlepper Pavesi Typ P 40-100(i) .
