Serving as ABDA flagship at the start of the Pacific War she took part in ABDA’s three major naval battles in 1942; Makassar Strait where she survived unscathed, Bandung Strait where her escort ships were annihilated and Java Sea where she was heavily damaged, later being ambushed and sunk.

HNLMS Java was a Java-class cruiser of the Royal Netherlands Navy. She was sunk during the Battle of the Java Sea on 27 February 1942. Struck by a torpedo her stern was blown apart, flooding the engines and setting fire to the AA deck. Capsizing in 15 minutes she lost of 512 of her crew in the Java sea.

Tromp was able to deploy to the Far East before the fall of the Netherlands where she served hunting down raiders. She was severely damaged by 11x 5-inch shells fired from Asashio off of Bali at the Battle of Bandung Strait before rejoining the fleet and serving to the end of the war.

One of the most widely travelled and survived ships of the Royal Netherlands Navy, the Zaan served in both Europe and the Far East. She commenced operations by laying 98 tactical sea mines near Den Helder. She was finally decommissioned in February 1970 when she was sold and scrapped.

The K-XI class was a class of 3 submarines built by Fijenoord Shipyard in Rotterdam. They were built for patrolling Dutch colonial waters with a dive depth of 60 mtrs. All ships were still in service at the start of WWII although K.XIII was soon scuttled whilst under repair at Soerabaja to prevent capture.

The K-XIV class of 5 boats were also designed for the patrolling of Colonial Waters. Heavy skinned and fully rivetted they were able to dive to 80 mtrs although at an increase of 200 tons. It was K-XVI that made the first allied submarine to kill a Japanese warship.

The sole boat of her class O-16 served under the British from the start of the Pacific War. Partially sinking four Japanese troopships in the Bay of Soengei Patani she struck a mine returning to Singapore, sinking and resting 53m down on the sea bed. Only one man survived.
